I have been a wide leg, baggy/boyfriend style, bell bottom, bootcut trouser girl for as long as I can remember and I thank my Mum for that. It's a style that is quite literally so cool, therefore I'm glad that it's popular right not. Though it's being called a trend for SS21, I consider it more of a forever staple. Having a pair of wide leg trousers in your wardrobe that you can turn to for business, smart casual or even casual wear is essential. They are more versatile than you think.

Wide leg trousers have been on runways forever, they've never really left the limelight, especially in collections from Brandon Maxwell and Ralph Lauren. When you see a model strut down the runway in them, you're instantly drawn to them (and if you're not, let's talk). The way the fabric moves and speaks; it's something else.

So recently Mum and I (I like to take credit but this was all Mum) decided to make a few new pairs of wide leg trousers and it was the best decision. Not only did we make new pairs, we went for bold colours and slightly different styles with each pair. Oh and they are all low rise.

Now before you have a field day, because low rise is apparently the enemy or something, Mum and I are low rise girls. Always have been, always will be. We've never been high waisted people, it doesn't suit us. But low rise? We have a wonderful relationship with this particular fit. It feels very boyfriend and for me personally, ironically, it doesn't make me feel self-conscious... I know, make it make sense right? I think it's because it's one of those styles I'm so comfortable in, I don't ever feel like it lets me down.

They make me feel very boss bitch - more so in these colours. Tell me that a bold coloured trouser doesn't say power?

I love each of these looks, but that pink trouser with the green shirt is a combination I didn't know I needed and now I need an excuse to wear it out somewhere. I will outfit repeat without any shame.

This borrowed-from-the-boys, relaxed yet put together style is something that I think needs more attention. And I'm so glad that right now this trend and style is making the rounds and I think it's here to stay.

I've found a few gorgeous pairs of wide leg trousers in Zara that I think are perfect staples to add to your wardrobe. Click the images to shop!
