If you didn't see, Gucci decided to drop a major collaboration during their 100 year anniversary runway show and the fashion world went a little crazy, uncertain of whether or not it was a good move or not. This got me thinking about other designer collaborations making their way into the market this Spring Summer. Various brand worlds are colliding with others and it's interesting to see how styles fit together. Here are a few designer collaborations right now!
Gucci's Alessandro Michele joint forces with Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia to create a capsule collection, showcased during their 100 year celebration show, that turned heads. This is the first collaboration for Gucci this year - they already released a collection with North Face - but it's definitely a statement one. Michele borrowed signature Balenciaga shapes and its logo print to combine it with the classic of Gucci to create a collaboration that couldn't be ignored. So far none of the collaboration pieces have been released and it's not clear if they will be, but my guess is if they do, they'll fly off the rails.
Heron Preston is known for its signature neon orange and logo prints, and for SS21, the brand has taken it to Calvin Klein. Combining classic colours with the simple, timelessness of CK, the collection takes those signature basics to new heights. The collaboration effortlessly combines the bits of Calvin Klein and Heron Preston that make them what they are to create a collection that is basic in the best way but will still be a talking point. I mean who doesn't love elevated basics? We can never have enough.
A collaboration no one knew they needed. Now if you know me personally, you'll know I love Maluma - like big fat crush level love. Not only is his music fire, his style is too and so it makes perfect sense that Olivier Rousteing, who is known to have his pulse on the fashionable celebrity elite, would give Maluma the opportunity to create a capsule collection with Balmain. The collection showcases monochrome stripes with pops of bold colours and prints that feel like they've just come out of Maluma's wardrobe. The double breasted blazer and the oversized sunglasses show you just how much of Maluma's personal style is involved and for the guys, I think this collaboration is a winner.
When I think of GANNI, I always think of their dresses with iconic prints and styles so when I saw their one of their latest collaborations is with Levi's, I was surprised. The brands have come together to create a more casual, denim-driven capsule collection keeping in tone with the classic of Levi's. Like CK x HP, this collaboration is one to put under wardrobe basics because of their simple nature.
In contrast, GANNI have also collaborated with London based, Indian-Nigerian heritage brand, Ahluwalia. A still relatively new brand, the menswear brand Ahluwalia showcases bold prints on classic silhouettes and that has been brought over and combined with GANNI's to release the brand's first womenswear collection. It doesn't disappoint; it is statement and unapologetic, and after the year we've all had, with the world opening up again, I think this collaboration gives us more reasons to be bold and extra.
The comfy classic footwear brand has joined forces with Molly Goddard this season to take UGG to the next level, literally. Alongside a classic slipper and boot style, the UGG x Goddard collaboration also releases a mega platformed clog style shoe in 3 bold colours. This capsule collection is definitely statement, in keeping with Goddard's signature style. Is this collaboration for me? No, sadly but I definitely appreciate this unexpected release.
I love what Loewe has done for their collaboration this SS21. Paula's is an iconic boutique in Ibiza that's home to beautifully bohemian, island styles. Loewe has been collaborating with the brand since 2017 and continues to this year, showcasing perfect summer pieces that will take you away to Ibiza when you wear them. Literally, they are just beautiful summer pieces that scream "I need a holiday". With the unique silhouettes and detailing, multicoloured range and even the bags in the shape of fruit, this collection is just so fun yet sophisticated for this year, effortlessly combining Paula's style with Loewe's.
I love to see collaborations come together like this, it keeps you guessing as to what's coming in the industry. What collaboration do you love the most? Or what collaboration would you like to see in the future? Let me know in the comments below.
Lots of Love,
Emily xx
