The Styling Tips I'm Still Taking From The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada is one of the iconic fashion movies we have and it's one of my favourites. Maybe it's because of all the fashion, maybe because it's about an aspiring journalist, maybe it's because I adore Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway - whatever it is, I love it. Even though it was released in 2006, there are style notes in this movie that cannot be ignored and still be adopted today. Here are the style tips I'm still taking from The Devil Wears Prada.

Thigh High Boots Worn Right Are An Amazing Investment

"Are those..." "The Chanel boots? Yeah."

If there's a pair of boots I want, it's the Chanel boots Andy gets from the Runway Closet thanks to Nigel. I mean, effortless, chic and the way they've been styled for Andy's iconic transformation is perfect; an embroidered & embellished blazer with a mini dress underneath, a layering of gold chains to compliment the gold detailing, and a green knit bag to throw of the monochrome-esque look. Honestly, if I ever get my hands on the perfect pair of thigh highs, I'll take inspiration from Andy's look. I'd go for an oversized blazer, gold chain link necklaces, a mini dress of an opposing colour for edge and the boots. Shop a similar look below:

Layered Necklaces & Baker Boys Makes An Outfit

More Chanel detailing that does not go wrong. Layering charm necklaces or pearls is not done as much. I know right now everyone's into the gold chunky chain necklaces, which are of course cool, but why not go for a little something longer? Switch it up. It can bring a playful sophistication to an otherwise simple outfit - especially for day time wear. I'm a big fan of baker boy hats too; I just think they are far more sophisticated than bucket hats and stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love a baseball cap but for more casual wear. Baker boy hats have a more elevated style. Next time you feel like your outfit needs a lift, why not go for these accessories the way Andy does?

Little Black Dresses Are Fit For Anything

I still dream about this dress and it's so simple. I'd love to recreate it one day and call it the "Andy". It's one of my favourite looks from the film. Super chic and has a vintage edge that is still modern. It's such a versatile piece and shows us that LBD are fit for work too, when you find the right one. Pair it with some tights and ankle strap pumps, et voila you have an outfit.

Don't Be Afraid Of An All White Ensemble

We're all about neutrals and with the amount of nude tones we were, we neglect white tones. Plus, if Andy can wear a white coat with confidence in New York, we can wear one anywhere. The mixture of tones takes you from looking like a ball of snow to a sophisticated fashionista. Add textures and patterns to give the look some life and don't be afraid to wear white.

For Evening Wear, A Strong Neckline And An Up-Do is the way to go

I know a lot of these looks are black, but it just goes to show black can never steer you wrong. For the Runway benefit, Miranda & her assistants are all wearing black and are the centre of the show - yes, I know Miranda is the editor, but she's the woman in fashion, so if she's wearing black, everyone's going to love it. What this whole thing taught me was you can never go wrong with black, it's so versatile and with little extra detailing like a plunging neckline, lace trimming, unique sleeves and a suited silhouette, you will look both elegant and chic. If you have a great pair of earrings to go with it, then wear them but if you don't, do an Andy and place a flower in your hair.

Jeans & A Roll Neck Don't Have To Be Boring, If You Accessorise Right

Once Andy ditches Miranda in the middle of Paris and returns to New York to be the journalist she's always wanted to be, she doesn't lose her style but instead becomes a combo of simple and fashion-forward Andy. What I love about this look is the fact that it's quite basic and can be mimicked easy and has been elevated by the choice of boots, jacket and bag. The brown tones mixed with dark denim always work well for me, I always think it works and TDWP stylist knew that too. Personally it reminds me that jeans and a jumper don't have to be boring at all and you've probably already for the right pieces to bring it to life.

A Fitted Blazer & Pencil Skirt Can Take You From Work To A Hot Date

I'm actually disappointed that I had to search so much to only get this photo of this outfit. I mean this one was killer! It was super sexy and sophisticated. Even though Andy wears it for her date with Christian Thompson, it would be a great one for day to night. Yeah it's a little sexier, but who cares. A figure hugging midi skirt will instantly make you feel powerful, accompanied with a blazer too? I mean...! Pair with a sleek stilettos (I'm thinking red bottoms if you can ladies) and a pair of glittering studs and you're good to go. Easy, effortless but all the sass of a powerful woman.

There you have it, just a few iconic moments from an iconic film that I still think have impact. I mean these are styles that I definitely have or will incorporate into my wardrobe because I honestly think they are timeless. This is one of those fashion films that I'll watch forever - I don't think I can get sick of it. Are you into these stylings from Andy's wardrobe or are there some that I'm missing? If you could choose one of these options, what would you choose? Let me know in the comments below.

Lots of Love,

Emily xx
