We all get to that point when our wardrobes need a clear out, a refresh but maybe we're not finding what we like or we're too tight for cash to buy what we like. Or we have pieces that we love, stuffed in a corner which we haven't worn and are trying to figure out how to give them new life.
Well, I think I've found the answer. For your dresses at least.
It's nothing new or groundbreaking but it's a style I think is underrated. Dresses over jeans. It's something that's been done before of course - I love the sheer midi dress over jeans combo. But it's a styling option that is overlooked but can be super chic.
You can do it for day or night, as I've done here. For the day, I've taken my trusty Zara high low hem shirt dress (so comfortable and classic, it's not leaving my wardrobe ever) and a pair of cropped raw hem jeans from ASOS (which I also looove), put them together and voila - a look. I got inspired by Danielle of WeWoreWhat a while back. I've worn this outfit before and it's proven a winner.
It's the perfect style for a casual day or even work if you're daring. With a pair of cropped trousers and a leather jacket, you could win the workwear game. I'd go for a striking pair of flats for this look. I've paired my Charles & Keith Embellished Heel Ballerinas to this one. They are so cute, they remind me of buying shoes to go with my uniform for primary and secondary school. (I prided myself in having the chicest shoes to go with my uniform. I'm so glad my parents encouraged it haha).
My second look is more for a smart-casual time; maybe drinks or dinner because it's slightly sassier. This royal blue shift dress is actually a custom piece that I made for NYE. I love it so much and want to wear it more, but because it is silk-satin it can feel a bit too dressy. I grabbed my Levi's 711 Dark Blue Skinnies for a more laidback look and my Dune Marabella Leopard Print Sandals to keep the sass.
With the cold weather that I see in England & USA, you may not be able to just go bare shouldered on top.
Style Tip: Why not add a turtleneck underneath any strapless or strappy dresses on those cooler days. Also add a trench coat for extra flair.
I can't actually show you this styling right now because I am in the tropics - but you will probably see it once I head back to London later in the month.
How are you styling those pieces that you love but haven't worn enough? I'd love to know! I'll probably doing this more often because I honestly think it's rather sophisticated and cool. If you try this out, I'd love to see what you've done so tag me or just drop a comment below!
